听写部分安排在对话部分之后,并且只会考到以下两种题型中的一种:听写填空(spot dictation)和复合式听写(compound dictation)。这两种题型是全国大学英语四、六级考试委员会经过近两年的实验研究,并经国家教委高等教育司批准,决定从1996年1月大学英语四级考试开始,陆续采用的几种新题型中的两种,但是到目前为止六级考题中尚未出现听写填空的题型。
1.听写填空(spot dictation)
根据样题,听写填空为一篇120字左右的短文,题材、体裁和难度与短文部分的短文接近。文中有10个空格。空格内要求填入一般包含15个字母以内的单词,或者句子的一部分。这种题型主要考察考生听的能力和书面表达能力。全文读三遍。一下是听写填空的directions的内容,考前熟悉该内容不仅有助于了解这种题型的部分做题要领,而且由于此内容每次考试雷同、播音时间长,考生考前如果看过,可为考生节省时间看文章以便了解其大意和部分细节内容。
Directions:In this section, you will hear a passage of about 120 words three times. The passage is printed on your Answer Sheet with about 50 words missing. First, you will hear the whole passage from the beginning to the end just to get a general idea of it. Then, in the second reading, you will hear a signal indicating the beginning of a pause after each sentence, sometimes two sentences or just part of a sentence. During the pause, you must write down the missing words you have just heard in the corresponding space on the Answer Sheet. There is also a different signal indicating the end of the pause. When you hear this signal, you must get ready for what comes next from the recording. You can check what you have written when the passage is read to you once again without the pause.

2. 复合式听写(compound dictation)
复合式听写为一篇250字左右的短文,题材、体裁和难度与短文部分的短文接近。文中有10个空格。前7个空格填入单词,后3个空格较长,要求考生将所听到的内容或用原文或用自己的话表达出来。这种题型同样也是考察考生听的能力和书面表达能力。全文读三遍,第一遍为全文朗读,中间没有任何停顿,要求考生听懂全文内容;第二遍朗读时每个空格后分别有停顿,以便考生填写所缺单词,根据录音写出原句或句意;第三遍又全文朗读,中间没有停顿,这一遍是供考生核对所填内容。
下面是1999年6月六级全真考题中的复合听写:

1. former为常用词,作定语,修饰名词presidents。考生在听音之前如果已知美国政坛的几位前总统,则不难填出该词。
2. 这个空格应填入过去分词aimed,以便与后面的at搭配。
3. billion,结合前面的数字和后面的货币单位,就不难预测到这里应该是数字单位。听音时注意不要将其与million混淆。要资助300万人,3个million是不够的,应该是个billion.
4. coordination,这虽然是本题要填入的最长的一个词,但听到这个词可按字母组合co,or,di, na, tion五部分拼出,也就不难填出了。
5. specialists,作间接宾语。注意cia音节的拼写和复数标志s。
6. grants,名词作宾语。注意需要使用其复 数形式。
7. address,与radio一起构成复合词:电台讲话。注意address的拼写。
8. They are likely to drop off school, and less likely to succeed in life.
9. The program, initiated by President Clinton has come on the criticism by Congress.
10.Dozens of colleges and Universities are preparing to send thousands of students in support of the Porgram.
要在听写部分拿到理想的分数,考前应加强语音和拼写方面的训练,熟练掌握常用词语;考试时在第一遍听音时,在不影响全文理解的前提下尽量将重要的内容记录下来,便于之后归纳和总结。第三遍核查时着重检查字母大小写。
